Take the Al Waters Challenge…Again!

Last year I personally challenged all of you to step up to the plate and swing big.   I offered to put my money where my mouth was.  I offered 50% of any donation that you gave towards  my ride in the Pan Mass challenge, would be received back to you in free Waters Works services.  If a $200.00 donation was made, I gave $100.00 in free services.

I believed in this quest more than anything I have ever believed in.

I started training for the 192 mile bike race that would take place over 2 days.

I was quite surprised when a few things happened.   Little did I know when I said that I would do this, I would be riding it not only in honor of my loved ones that had not made it through their battles with cancer, but also for my sister that had been newly diagnosed.   I have lost both my parents to cancer, as well as my mother in law.  I also have a brother in law that is a TWO TIME Cancer survivor!

As I prepared for the race, the donations started coming in.  It was humbling to see how many people gave whatever they could to support this ride.  One dear friend, Gayle Kaufman, added her donation and support.  Gayle and I had known each other for many years.  I was floored when I was told 2 weeks after Gayle made her donation that she had been recenly diagnosed with lung cancer.  Gayle passed away 2 months later.   She was not able to see me complete my ride, or reach my goals.

August 2010 came, and so did my ride.  111 miles day one, and 81 miles day two, to complete a 192 mile course in 2 days.  I had done it!  The sense of pride and accomplishment was amazing.

I proudly ride this ride in memory of my dear friend Gayle, our pedal partner Charlotte and in honor of my sister Kymber .  We will not stop our fight against cancer.  I challenge you.  And for every donation,  I will donate 50% in services this 2011 season.

With you all on my team, we can’t lose!

Lastly, I would like to welcome a new member to the Lick Cancer Team.

Our peddle partner Charlotte’s mother Janet is joining the team this year and will be riding with us.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.  No donation is to big or to small.
